The Nautre and Prevalence of Depression in Positive and Negative Schizophreic In Patients


Abstract
The authors assessed the characteristics and prevalence of depression in positive and negative schizophrenic inpatients. In comparion of characterstics of depression in positive and negative schiaophrenia, we took 64 subjects who were matched in
age
sex, and dose of drugs.
The authors used the following scales: 1) Scale for the Assessment of positive Symptoms (SAPS), 2) Scale for Assessment of Negative Symptoms(SANS), 3) Self Depression Scale (SDS).
@ES The results were as follows:
@EN 1) The prevalence of depression in schizophrenic inpatients was 27%. The prevalence of depression in positive schizophrenics and negative schizophrenics, defined by 50 or higher scores of total SDS was 14% and 45%. The frequency of depression
in
negative schizophrenics was significantly higher than that of positive schizophrenics.
2) The common depressive symptoms in positive schizophrenics were diurnal variation. Decreased libido, confusion, hopelessness and psychomotor agitation and those in negative schizophrenics were diurnal variation, decreased libido, psychomotor
retardation, indecisive ncess and personal devaluation.
3) The scores of SDS symptoms items in negative schizophrenics were significantly higher than those in positive schizophrenics in as follows: Psychomotor retardation, indecisiveness. Personal devaluation, emptiness, depressed mood, suicidal
rumination,
hopelessness, decreased libido. Psychomotor agitation and irritability.
